Joint Commission visits promote a high level of anxiety across

Joint Commission visits promote a high level of anxiety across the entire organization, don’t they, Carlos?  In reality, though, they are the opportunity for nurses to shine and really “strut their stuff”.  Nurses have the street cred on the floor that can either really impress the examiners – or it can sink efforts to gloss over the ugly parts if senior management thinks they can snow them.  Nurses are often in the best position to show the true status of an organization and are also the ones best suited to intervene if there is an issue.

How can nursing leaders promote a culture that encourages everyone to bring up shortfalls (maybe not to Joint Commission) in order to address concerns and systemic issues?
