If the researcher is the primary instrument for data collection and analysis, how can we be sure the researcher is a valid and reliable instrument? Are the “personal criteria” offered by Lichtman (2013) and Tracy (2013) offer (Merriam & Tisdell, 2016, p. 240)? Why or why not? Do superior alternatives exist?
