The reality of the healthcare industry today is confronted with the enormous and increasing cost of the services themselves (Moaven et al., 2021). Many experts today think that the high price of healthcare services and unnecessary spending is due to the shifting concept of establishing quality services and efficient care (Moaven et al., 2021). In recent years, the US government has delegated Medicare and Medicaid to create an alternative model to compensate for the healthcare services provided to the public (Moaven et al., 2021). These healthcare payment models include bundled payment, devolved accountability to the care organizations, etc. (Moaven et al., 2021). As a result, these payment models have challenged many healthcare providers to deliver more efficient and cost-effective services to all patients across the continuum (Moaven et al., 2021). The role of the advanced practice nurse (APN) was found to best suit this new healthcare services payment scheme (Moaven et al., 2021). In addition, many studies have found that to support the quality of the services the APN provides to the public is as good as those provided by a Physician and sometimes better (Moaven et al., 2021).

“Cost-effective care” refers to the quality of healthcare services provided to the consuming public while utilizing the least number of resources (Abraham et al., 2019; Watson et al., 2018). The role of a healthcare organization is to create a business environment that can deliver cost-effective service while providing quality care (Abraham et al., 2019; Watson et al., 2018). As healthcare business dynamics improve, much literature supports that it sums up to the quality and cost-effective service (Abraham et al., 2019; Watson et al., 2018).

The role of APNs today has evolved and continuously evolved to provide a quality healthcare service (Abraham et al., 2019; Watson et al., 2018). I have been serving and practicing as an APN for several years now, and I think that we are also bound by the premise of providing quality through utilizing current best practices based on facts. Evidence-based clinical practice will allow the APN to deliver the best quality and most cost-effective services (Abraham et al., 2019; Watson et al., 2018).
