Original discussion

Program of study: Forensic psychology

Social problem: Domestic violence is one of the problems being faced by over ten million Americans in the United States. In addition to emotional and psychological abuse, domestic violence is affected by the abuse of children and adults (Huecker et al., 2022). Ideally, domestic violence tends to cause mental illness, death, low-quality life, worsened physical health, and lack of productivity, and is also problematic to the psychological health of an individual.

Quantitative research problem: The scholarly community does not know how severe domestic violence is to an individual’s mental health, including risk to others and functioning.

Quantitative research purpose: This study aims to determine the extent of severity that domestic health can cause to an individual’s mental health (Voth Schrag & Edmond., 2018).

Quantitative research question: How impactive are the domains of domestic health, including functioning, subjective well-being, and symptoms, to the mental health of an individual?

Theory or conceptual framework: According to the ecosystem factor theory, domestic violence is predicted by life stressors (Huecker et al., 2022). However, this occurs in other factors such as mental illness, isolation, and marital problems. These social problems are well understood through the ecosystem factor theory.

Qualitative Research Design: The most appropriate qualitative research design for this scenario is a case study where the person is interviewed using research questions that help obtain and analyze information.

Qualitative Sampling Strategy: C onvenience sampling.

Sampling Criteria: In this sampling technique, convenient participants are identified and research questions administered. No additional inputs are required.

Sources of Data: Recruitment of participants. The researcher avails themselves to where the participants are and ask for their contribution to the research (Voth Schrag & Edmond., 2018). Access issues may include the unavailability of some participants and resistance to participating.

Qualitative Data Collection Method: One-on-one interviews.
